Mollusk shells have a structure called the coat membrane, where epithelial cells secrete chitin and proteins, a protein-calcium carbonate complex structure known as the nacreous layer, on the shell surface. The nacreous layer consists of 2-8% shell hard proteins, the primary source of hydrolyzed pearls.
Drop Care® Pearl H (hydrolyzed pearl) is a small molecule obtained by hydrolysis of shell hard protein. It has a strong inhibitory effect on tyrosinase, reducing the activity of the complex enzyme and inhibiting the expression of Tyr and Tyr-1 proteins, thereby reducing intracellular melanin production, resulting in a whitening effect. Hydrolyzed pearl is highly soluble in water, making it easy to incorporate into formulations.
